Using This Blog

Introduction

A blog consists of posts and comments. Post are the main messages you see identified with titles. Posts are typically listed in reverse chronological order so that the most recent posting is first.

Each post can have comments associated with it. A post may have no comments or any number of comments depending on responses. If you click on the title of a post, you will see the original post and all of the associated comments. Alternatively, you can click on the small comments link located near the bottom of each post to view comments.

Viewing the Blog

The address of this blog is acuoffthepage.wordpress.com. Enter this url in any web browser to view posts. You can also monitor the blog by subscribing to it via RSS feeds (to be explained later). At present, anybody can view this blog. You do not need to have an account with wordpress or be logged in to the blog to view it.

Making Comments

To respond to a post, you need to leave a comment. Anyone from the ACU campus or the general public can submit a comment. All comments will initially be held in a queue for moderation before being published on the blog.

You do not need a wordpress.com account or to login to the blog to comment. Simply click either the title of the post or comments link found at the end of the post. Scroll down until you see the form to submit comments. Comments require:

  • your name
  • your email

After approval from the blog administrator, your comment will appear on ACU Off The Page.

Posting to the Blog

Posting refers to creating a totally new message or topic on the blog. It does not refer to submitting comments (see prior sections above). Only people who register are allowed to create new posts to the blog.

1. Register with wordpress

You must have a wordpress account to post. If you already have one, skip this step; otherwise register now or by clicking the link “register new account” under Blog Tools at the bottom of the right column on the blog. Note: The registration screen will ask if you want a personal blog or just an account. Check the option for account only or else you will wind up creating your own separate blog.

2. Request author privileges.

After creating a wordpress account, you must get permission from the blog administrator to post to the blog.

3. Actual posting

If you have your wordpress account and have been approved by the blog administrator, you can post. To post, you must login to the blog. The most convenient way to do this is by clicking the link “login to blog” located near the bottom of the right column under Blog Tools. Login by entering your wordpress username and password.

After logging in, the screen will look the same with one exception. You now see a menu bar at the very top with various options. Select New Post to send a post to the blog.
